What We Want You to Know About Your Examination:

Annual examinations of your eyes allow us to check how well you are seeing and to look for early signs of disease or damage. Finding and treating problems early is the best way to help you see more clearly. We check the health of your eye, measure the acuity of your vision, test your field of vision as well test the muscles that move your eye.

Glaucoma Screenings are part of our exam. Glaucoma is a disease that can damage the optic nerve and lead to blindness. Glaucoma usually develops without any symptoms. A quick, painless screening may help us diagnose and treat glaucoma early so that we might preserve your eyesight.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Ocular Disease and Injury is necessary as even minor injuries or eye infections can cause serious damage to your eyesight if left untreated. Dr. Weikum is therapeutically certified to diagnose and treat most eye diseases and can provide appropriate referral to a specialist if necessary.

Retinal Photography and Imaging is a state of the art technology that allows Dr. Weikum to view and show you the complete retina with or without pupil dilation. This diagnostic test is used to detect macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes and tears, and any optic nerve defect or abnormality. Photo documentation provides a higher standard of care and a better record of your eye health from year-to-year.

Corneal Topography maps the geographical shape of the cornea. The cornea is the transparent tissue in the front of the eye where the contact lens is placed. The cornea is the first tissue that light encounters in the process of focusing on the retina in the back of the eye. Early detection of corneal diseases caused by over wearing or poorly fit contact lenses can be seen on the topographical map. This camera allows more accurate contact lens fitting and helps determine more precisely those patients who are candidates for refractive surgery.

As an Alternative to Lasik surgery, many contact lens patients are choosing Corneal Molding. Corneal Topography allows Dr. Weikum to send specific measurements to the lab to create a custom corneal mold lens made specifically for your cornea. Corneal Mold lenses can over a period of time, create the same effect as Lasik surgery without the laser.

Co-management for Lasik and Cataract Surgery with the surgery center has enabled Dr. Weikum to manage hundreds of pre- and post-operative refractive surgery cases. He works with the best surgeons in the DFW area. Our office will manage your surgical appointments and insurance needs.
